A Roller Derby team from Birmingham is looking the part thanks to a donation from a unique sporting campaign.

Central City Roller Derby, who train at the Doug Ellis Sports Centre, has received some fully bespoke sports kit worth £750, from the GFORCE Sportswear 2019 Campaign which aims to provide support to help sports teams and clubs achieve their aspirations.

Founded in 2007, Central City Roller Derby comprise of an A team, who are currently 55 in the Women's Flat Track Roller Derby rankings, and a formidable B team, who competed in the British Championships this year. The team also has a collection of high level referees, non-skating officials and volunteers, who have represented in high level tournaments in Europe, Canada and America over the years in various roles. Furthermore, the team also train people who are new to the sport and have an up and coming collection of rookie skaters who are improving each week. The club applied to the Grassroots Campaign so they could get a new look after recently updating their name.

Jo Long from Central City Roller Derby club said: “We are a highly competitive team, but at the same time encourage an inclusive, safe and fun atmosphere for everyone and strive to promote and represent all aspects of roller derby across the West Midlands, the UK and worldwide.

“We have recently rebranded with a new name in order to be more inclusive so to come across the Grassroots Campaign was perfect timing! We decided to order some shorts for the whole club.

“We were all involved in the design stage and are pleased with the results. The material is good quality and I’m sure they will last the rigours of this sport! Thank you to GFORCE Sportswear for all their support, we are looking forward to wearing the shorts at the European Continental Cup in Helsinki in October.
