Q & A with the Kennel Club

Added 04 Sep 2019 by GFORCE

We’ve recently completed an exciting order for the world-renowned Kennel Club, which has ordered kits for their Junior and Senior dog agility teams. Here, in our latest guest Q&A, Gina Sansom who is Senior Events Co-ordinator for the Kennel Club, tells us more!

1. Tell us a little bit about the history of the Kennel Club.

Founded in 1873, the Kennel Club is the largest organisation in the UK devoted to dog health, welfare and training. Our objective is to ensure that dogs live healthy, happy lives with responsible owners.

2. How long has the club been involved in dog agility and how many teams do you have?

The Kennel Club has been involved in a range of dog activities for years and began dog agility, which it is the governing body for, in the 1970s. We now have a European Open and World Championship team who are selected annually.

3. What does taking part in dog agility involve?

Agility is open for all. There are classes for all ages of handler and dogs of all breeds of dogs are welcome. The classes range from beginner right through to the worlds stage. To progress through the levels, you have to win a certain number of classes and to compete at Crufts or abroad in Team GB You need to go to qualifiers across the country to submit points to have the chance of being selected onto the squad. Then there is a squad process before the team are selected. Once you are in the team, it’s quite a big commitment.

4. What makes it such a great activity to be involved in?

It’s such a fun activity for you and your dog, the club shows are extremely social, particularly in the summer months with many shows offering camping/caravan facilities, and you could get to travel around the world either at international competitions or representing your national team.

5. How important is what you wear when you take part?

The right clothing is crucial to performance. Not just from a technical perspective but there is a practical and functional element when competing in hot countries, particularly for Team GB. We also have an aesthetic element, wanting to look the smartest and the best helps to give our team members confidence to perform to their maximum capability.

6. What did you recently order from GFORCE Sportswear and for which teams?

For the last two years our teams have worn a newly designed kit which we created with the help of GFORCE Sportswear. We have been really pleased with the garments we’ve received and would highly recommend GFORCE Sportswear.

7. What’s next on the horizon when it comes to your dog agility teams and what are your hopes for the future?

We are working hard to build a squad of depth and strength to develop a medal winning culture for years to come. The future is bright, its red, white and blue.
