Stoke sports club nets brand new kit!

Added 26 Feb 2019 by GFORCE

A wheelchair basketball club from Stoke has scored brand new kit thanks to a donation from a unique sporting campaign.

Stoke Spitfires has received the fully bespoke kit, worth £750, from the GFORCE Grassroots Campaign which aims to provide financial support to help sports teams and clubs achieve their aspirations.

The club, which was founded 20 years ago, currently has one team that plays in the Division 3 central of the National League. With a membership of 16, a mixture of juniors and seniors, Stoke Spitfires has players who have been disabled from birth plus players who have become disabled later in life. Able bodied people are also welcome. The club applied to the Grassroots Campaign for funding to help kit the team out with training tops.

Andy Flower from Stoke Spitfires, said: “We are a fully inclusive club who doesn’t turn anyone away regardless of ability or disability. Our ethos is that we believe that what we do is as much about the social side of things as it is the sport, competition and fitness elements which all goes to help with the mental health side.

“We have found it very tough financially of late so we were delighted to come across the GFORCE Grassroots campaign as we were keen to have some training polo tops for our division 3 team to go with the playing shirts we already have so that we look like a team all the time! I was involved in the kit design which was very easy. I was looking for a smart comfortable tshirt that was practical but that also looks good and we are extremely happy with the final product.

“On behalf of the team and the club, we would like to thank GFORCE for the shirts and all of their in the design and customer service which I have found to be extremely professional.”

After two successful years in which GFORCE Sportswear’s Grassroots Campaign made 12 donations at a total of £10,000 to clubs and teams across the Midlands the company has again set aside a £5,000 pot of money for 2018 reinforcing its commitment to grassroots sport.

Simon Ward, sales director at GFORCE Sportswear, said “The GFORCE Grassroots campaign exists to reward the dedication, passion and success of sports teams and clubs from across the Midlands just like the Stoke Spitfires. The team look great in their new kit and we are really pleased that they have gone down so well. We wish them the very best for the future.

“Our company has a proud history of supporting the local community and we are so pleased to be able to help local sports clubs in this way.”
